After Charles, age 20, died by suicide in 2015, I could barely function. As I slowly managed my way through the agony of grief, I struggled with a question that wouldn’t go away:

How do I make meaning out of this?

I was desperate to learn more. I wanted to understand what had happened, help others avoid what our family had lived through, and somehow find a way forward.

The grief was unbearable. Yet here I am. I did survive, and I have learned to find joy and meaning in my life. It took work. It took intention, and it was not easy.

I won’t tell you that I landed on professional speaking right away.

Finding my next chapter was a process, and it wasn’t always pretty. I tried things on. I focused on my talents and passions. I followed some paths that didn’t fit and learned from my failures. I fell flat on my face at times, had some amazing successes, and met incredible people. Slowly, those experiences helped me define a path that felt meaningful.

And that path is still evolving.

Your Next Chapter

This retreat is for people at least 2 years out from a life-altering loss, who are ready to explore what comes next.

For some, healing may mean giving back through advocacy, volunteerism, or community work.

For others, it may mean creating a career, organization, or nonprofit inspired by what they have experienced.

There is no single right way to create meaning from loss.

Over three half-days together, we’ll explore your strengths, skills, passions, and goals to help you identify a next chapter that fits you—not someone else’s idea of what you should do.

We’ll also talk about the importance of trying things on, learning from what doesn’t work, and allowing you to change direction without admonishing yourself for wrong turns, but instead celebrating that experience and understanding what you learned from it.

Creating a meaningful life after loss doesn’t mean leaving your loved one behind.

The person we lost is part of us.

Creating a legacy can be one way of carrying their name, their influence, and their love forward while also building a life that belongs to us.

This retreat is about healing by doing—taking what you’ve lived through and exploring how it might become a source of purpose, connection, contribution, or change.

This retreat is appropriate for those who are two or more years past a profound, life-altering loss. Your loved one may have died from any cause, and the relationship can be any type of significant loss.

Their death is not the end of your story. Ready to Explore Your Next Chapter?

Come as you are. You don’t need to have your next chapter figured out. Or maybe you have some of it figured out.

We’ll explore it together. We will talk before the retreat because I want to know you better. Yes, we have a form, but a one-on-one is important.
