Below is my interview with Ryan Hysenaj from Professional Mindcare on mental health in the workplace as well as suicide prevention in the workplace.

As a frequent mental health podcast guest, I sat down for a virtual interview with Ryan Hysenaj founder of Professional Mindcare Founder of Toronto, Ontario. We discuss both mental health and suicide topics related to workplace wellness.

Discover the true key to productivity: fostering a deep sense of connection and belonging in the workplace and how to inspire that culture.

How can you help a co-worker?

  1. Listen: Listen with empathy, not trying to fix, passing judgment, or making statements like “You have so much to live for. Use those ears you have on the side of your head. This is the first and most important step because allowing someone to feel heard is the greatest gift we can offer another human.
  2. Adjust Workload: If you are a manager, you can help adjust a workload temporarily or suggest that the person go to a manager or HR to ask for that support
  3. Connecting with Resources: You can help by connecting that person with your EAP company resources and ERGs (Employee Resource Groups) that focus on the distressing topic.

One way to build a wellness culture is to start meetings with engaging wellness games and activities that spark conversation, connection, and belonging, and promote emotional well-being among colleagues.
