About the Episode
AnneMoss Rogers and Sonia Cacique, host of the College & Career Ready Podcast, talk about suicide and mental health issues on college campuses – and why times of transition can put students at higher risk. While we may think of transitions as the “big” stuff like getting ready to start college after high school – it can also be seemingly smaller iterruptions like returning to campus after a holiday break that can be a trigger.
Unfortunately, mental health resources are not always readily available or accesible on college campuses. This coupled with the shame and stigma of having a mental illnes are often barriers to seeking help. This is why the signs and symptoms discussed in this episode are so critical for parents and educators to watch for and be ready to provide access to resources when they see a need.
See AnneMoss’ mental health speaker page for parents for speaking and training topics to educate parents on what to say, what to do, and how to manage the emotions around the difficult topic of teen mental health and teen suicide.
