<video:title><![CDATA[Can a Blog Save Lives? | Anne Moss Rogers | TEDxGraceStreetWomen]]></video:title>
<video:description><![CDATA[Can we save people who are Googling, "ways to die?"
People Google how to do lots of things-- including how to kill themselves. How can we leverage what we know about suicide and the internet to save lives? After her son Charles killed himself, Anne Moss Rogers sold her digital marketing business, started a blog called Emotionally Naked, and used her skills at search engine optimization and content marketing to reach those most in need to help prevent suicide.

Anne Moss Rogers | Blogger & Advocate

The benefit of hindsight is a valuable tool, if only we could use it to see what’s ahead instead of what has passed. When Anne Moss Rogers began to grapple with her son’s death by suicide, little did she know her journey would help others working through their experiences as well.

With Rogers’ background in marketing and media, she realized how she could cast a spotlight on the taboo topics that triggered her family’s loss — mental illness and addiction. Her widely-followed blog, Emotionally Naked, led Rogers to mobilize an online network to aid others as they pursue information, resources and support for themselves and their families – all in the hopes that her blog will be a beacon for people seeking information about destructive behaviors. The ASQ Suicide Screening Tool is a research-based, standardized way to give a healthcare provider a validated way of asking really awkward questions and starting a difficult but important conversation.

<video:description><![CDATA[Hosted by suicide prevention speaker and mental health speaker AnneMoss Rogers, this webinar features guest speaker and author Dr. Kimberly O’Brien discussing athlete mental health and themes from her new book Mentality Wins: The Athlete’s Playbook for Thriving in Sport and Life (https://amzn.to/4qlgt1n), co-authored with Dr. Jonathan Jenkins. For Athletes, Coaches, and Parents of Athletes.

Q indicates the questions, which is followed by the answer.

2:55 Q-1 Psychological safety as foundational to athletic wellness and performance.

4:02 Q-2 Controlling mindset and rewiring self-talk. How can athletes shift from that negative to constructive self-talk?

4:28 Kim ...So when we discuss self-talk that's really that internal narrative you have that shapes how you interpret and respond to certain situations...

7:18 Kim...I don't care about that first thought that comes in, it's how do you then respond to that thought...

8:54 Q-3 How does play or gamification build sustainable focus for teams, and how does it bring back the joy of the sport?

12:37 Q-4 How can perfectionism erode performance?

17:34 Q-5 Performance anxiety. What strategies help reduce that anxiety in high-pressure moments?

17:55 Kim... I think when we think about performance anxiety, there's kind of two aspects to it. There's the cognitive side and the physiological side....

25:02 Q-6 Entering “the zone” or flow.” What conditions help athletes enter flow? How can they increase their chances of reaching it?

30:44 Resilience- I'm going to share a quote I loved from your book. "Those awful feelings you experience after a setback is the raw material that builds mental toughness." How do you learn to handle hard well because you're going to have adverse circumstances in your life? When you're playing a sport. What are the key ingredients for building resilience?

33:34 Q-8 What strategies help athletes navigate injury and recovery while maintaining connection to the team?

<video:title><![CDATA[Smartphone Free Childhood US - "Let's Change The Norm"]]></video:title>
<video:description><![CDATA[Smartphones and social media place adult-sized responsibilities on children long before they’re ready. From managing constant notifications, to navigating online bullying, to resisting addictive algorithms and harmful content. Kids are being asked to carry more than they should.

Research shows that early access to smartphones and social media can lead to:
- Increased anxiety and depression
- Disrupted sleep
- Fragmented and limited attention span
- Exposure to harmful content
- Underdeveloped social skills

There’s another way. By delaying smartphones and social media, we give our kids more time to build real-life connections and enjoy the simple joys of childhood. It’s a choice that protects childhood, while building the focus, resilience, and relationships kids need to thrive as adults.
Childhood should be about learning, friendships, and play—not spent scrolling.

Let’s change the norm together! Visit www.smartphonefreechildhoodus.com to learn more.

<video:title><![CDATA[How Parents Can Support Their Teens’ Mental Health at Home | Get on Their Turf With Anne Moss Rogers]]></video:title>
<video:description><![CDATA[Theme: How Parents Can Support Their Teens’ Mental Health at Home | Get on Their Turf With Anne Moss Rogers

“When the System Fails, Home Becomes the Healing Ground.”

In this episode of Get On Their Turf, Dr. Suzanne Simpson sits down with Anne Moss Rogers — TEDx speaker, author of Emotionally Naked, and suicide prevention advocate — to talk about how parents can support their teens’ mental health when formal systems fall short.

Together, they explore the reality many families face: long waitlists, unaffordable care, and overwhelmed parents trying to hold it all together. Anne Moss and Suzanne share deeply practical ways to build a “Plan B at home” — one grounded in compassion, communication, and connection.

They discuss how shame and silence isolate parents, how to set boundaries around social media without guilt, and why modeling imperfection is one of the most powerful parenting tools. You’ll walk away knowing that even when professional help is delayed, you are still your child’s greatest support system.

What You’ll Learn:

• How to build an evidence-based “Plan B” when therapy isn’t available
• Warning signs that show when “normal teen behaviour” becomes concerning
• How to model vulnerability without shame or oversharing
• Ways to rebuild safety, confidence, and trust at home
• How to use everyday moments — walks, meals, shared laughter — to reconnect

This conversation is for every parent who feels powerless watching their child struggle. You’ll leave with renewed confidence, grounded tools, and the reminder that *you* have more influence than you think.

Powerful life lesson about the butterfly emerging from the cocoon.

"There’s a powerful life lesson here: Our STRUGGLES always give us STRENGTH.Sometimes the STRUGGLES we go through are exactly what we need to GROW and DEVELOP. Although it is never fun in the moment… we can almost always look back on difficult moments… as crucial times that changed us for the better in some way. We all face struggle, and sometimes we watch those we love struggle as well - and although we don’t wish upon anyone hard times, we all need them for growth and for strength. Trying to avoid struggle… taking the easy path… will only lead to a harder life… to greater struggles, later on. Cursing the world and blaming struggles and circumstances for where you are will never help either. You must FACE your struggles and LEARN from them, use the hard times of your past to your advantage. You must FACE YOUR STRUGGLES and believe you have the strength to overcome them. If you can do that, you WILL over come them. There’s no shame in struggle… we all face our own battles in life… they are part of our journey, part of our STORY, pieces of our puzzle. Next time you are going through a challenge or a struggle, remind yourself: This struggle is STRENGTHENING ME…. This struggle is preparing me for something bigger and bett]]></video:description>

<video:description><![CDATA[https://mentalhealthawarenesseducation.com/mental-health-speaker/mental-health-speaker-for-schools/

Mental Health Speaker AnneMoss Rogers interviews Dr. Cynthia Ellison from Virginia State University Trojan Health & Wellness, an HBCU. This program is focused on crisis and going upstream to prevent crisis. What does a successful Wellness Program at a college look like? How do you get it funded? What activities do you have? How do you get leadership buy-in and involvement? How do you get students to show up? And how can faculty support the effort? What activities have been successful?

00:00 Introduction

01:33 In a day and age where so many leaders take a “check the box” approach to mental health, how you have gotten leadership for the buy-in and involvement to do what you’ve been able to do?

04:33 I think a really, really important point to get across is that you take it to them. You’re not saying “come to the counseling office, we’re going to have a group.” You go to them.
Tell us what that looks like.

06:52 Tell us what your wellness program looks like right now. The high-level details. You mentioned a lot of activities. Tell me what that looks like and how they’ve responded. Tell me about the stinkers – the things you’ve tried that have bombed.

(this year was the first time students have been the highest referring population (prior years were faculty and staff). Freshman welcome week spent 2.5 hours focused on mental health. While freshmen are always the largest population to utilize services, this year it is more so and they’re bringing peers)

10:58 Do you have any way to track that data?

12:06 You don’t have a giant budget. You’re not a very big university. How did you get all this funded?

(discussion of campus activities including expression of love henna tattoos)

13:00 Oh, I really love that. What was their reaction to that?

13:34 Okay, so your LGBTQIA+ group has been successful. Love on arms and tattoos. Wh]]></video:description>

<video:description><![CDATA[Meet Layla. She stands at the window of her 14th-floor office, haunted by the memory of a team member’s recent death by suicide. As VP of HR, she feels an overwhelming sense of responsibility, questioning whether she missed the signs and if she could have done more. Her inbox is overflowing with wellness initiatives and policy updates, yet none of it feels like enough. The grief in the office is still raw. The silence in meetings is deafening. And Layla doesn’t know where to begin.

In this episode, Jay is joined by AnneMoss Rogers, a suicide prevention expert, TEDx speaker, and bestselling author of Emotionally Naked and Diary of a Broken Mind. After losing her son Charles to suicide in 2015, AnneMoss turned her pain into a mission to help others heal, grieve, and build emotionally healthy communities.

Together, they explore how leaders like Layla can process the trauma of workplace loss, create safe spaces for vulnerability, and foster a culture where mental health is taken seriously. AnneMoss shares practical strategies to work through grief, confront guilt, and embrace emotional expression as a strength—not a weakness.

If you’ve ever struggled with feeling responsible for someone else’s pain, or wondered how to lead with compassion during times of crisis, this episode offers a powerful roadmap for healing and growth.

<video:description><![CDATA[So many of us are affected by suicide. Yet we struggle to talk about it as a community, and many of us struggle alone with suicidal thoughts. So we asked students on the Brickyard “What is your story? How have you been impacted by suicide?” We found out that students had powerful stories to tell, and that the silence is part of the problem. Many students have broken the silence with their stories of struggle and resilience, and here we feature three of them.
We know that suicide can be scary to discuss. There are resources to support you. If you need help, reach out. For yourself or for someone you know.

<video:title><![CDATA[America’s Top Doctor on Why He Wants Warning Labels on Social Media]]></video:title>
<video:description><![CDATA[Warning: This episode contains mentions of bullying and suicide.

A rising tide of mental health problems among teenagers has sent parents, teachers and doctors searching for answers. This week, the U.S. surgeon general, Dr. Vivek H. Murthy, offered one: social media.

Today, Dr. Murthy discusses his proposal to require platforms such as YouTube, TikTok and Instagram to include warning labels, like those that appear on tobacco and alcohol products.

Guest: Dr. Vivek H. Murthy, the U.S. surgeon general.

Background reading:

 • Dr. Murthy cannot unilaterally impose warnings on social media; the action requires approval by Congress (https://www.nytimes.com/2024/06/17/health/surgeon-general-social-media-warning-label.html) . Dr. Murthy said he would urge Congress to require a warning (https://www.nytimes.com/2024/06/17/health/surgeon-general-social-media-warning-label.html) that social media use can harm teenagers’ mental health.
 • Read a guest essay by Dr. Murthy: Why I’m Calling for a Warning Label on Social Media Platforms (https://www.nytimes.com/2024/06/17/opinion/social-media-health-warning.html) .

Our founder, Jessica Ortner, shows us how to use the Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT), also known as Tapping. EFT is a powerful stress relief technique based on the combined principles of ancient Chinese acupressure and modern psychology.

Studies have shown that Tapping decreases cortisol (often called the stress hormone) in your body. The World Health Organization has announced that stress is the health epidemic of the 21st century.

Anne Moss Rogers is a professional public speaker who has had to become comfortable making others uncomfortable. She spreads a message of hope on topics of behavioral health including suicide, mental illness, addiction, and grief. She's given presentations to audiences regarding topics of creativity, resilience, leadership, suicide prevention, recovery, and managing grief. These are topics no one wants to discuss. The time is never right. The event is never perfect and so easy to squirm out of with the phrase "It's just night right for our event.". But it's a conversation we have to have. Every presentation has a message of hope and that's the note on which I leave my audience. In memory of Charles Aubrey Rogers who suffered from addiction and died by suicide. April 24, 1995- June 5, 2015. If you are looking for a motivational speaker, reach out through this contact form

<video:description><![CDATA[Lyrics- http://www.annemoss.com/2016/06/04/forgive-momma-charles-aubrey-rogers/

It was not Charles' dream that his mom would be reading this. He'd rather Eminem do it. But I don't know his number.

Since 8th grade, rap was Charles' lifeline. He wrote it, performed it and it helped him deal with his depression. I'm not talking about the crap rap that is commercially popular, I'm talking about soulful kind that represents the root of the genre.

He was good at it.

Other than the raps he had on iTunes and online that did alarm me, he never shared his written raps with me. I got the ones he had after he died. He knew I'd be alarmed. I called his notebooks his Rap Diaries and in those pages, I have the answer to the why of his suicide.

Charles had "it" and sometimes it feels I lost Charles and the world lost Elvis. He had so much creative potential. So to celebrate my son's life on his one year death anniversary I did this video with the help of BES Studio in richmond VA. http://www.besstudios.com/ Thank you.

This one is for you Charles. I hope you hear it.

I hope you hear it.]]></video:description>

<video:title><![CDATA[Just One Pill Can Kill: A Message to Students by Students]]></video:title>
<video:description><![CDATA[Join the San Bernardino City Unified School District high school students as they create awareness about the dangers of fentanyl in their own words. Their message is, "too many kids like us are dying from drug overdoses, so what you're about to hear can save your life!"

Fentanyl is a deadly synthetic opioid that is being pressed into fake pills or cut into heroin, cocaine, and other street drugs to drive addiction. Just one pill can kill.

Fake pills with fentanyl are made to look like OxyContin®, Xanax®, Adderall®, and other pharmaceuticals. These fake pills can be easily bought online and contain no legitimate medicine.

Fentanyl is also made in a rainbow of colors so it looks like candy.

It only takes a very small dose of fentanyl – 2 milligrams – to be lethal, such as the amount found on the tip of a pencil.

Fentanyl use can cause confusion, drowsiness, dizziness, nausea, vomiting, changes in pupil size, cold and clammy skin, coma, and respiratory failure leading to death.

Remember, one pill can kill.

Visit www.dea.gov/onepill for more information and resources for parents and caregivers.

If you or someone you know needs help, please reach out to an adult you trust or call the County Department of Behavioral Health’s substance use 24-hour helpline at (800) 968-2636.

Please don't do drugs. We need you alive! If you're struggling with drugs, reach and get help right away.

<video:description><![CDATA[http://mentalhealthawarenesseducation.com/mental-health-speaker/mental-health-speaker-for-schools/

<video:description><![CDATA[Using School Wellness Centers to Address the Emotional Needs of Students
http://mentalhealthawarenesseducation.com/mental-health-speaker/mental-health-speaker-for-schools/
AnneMoss Rogers, a mental health keynote speaker and suicide prevention trainer for schools and businesses interviews Jennifer Bitton, a wellness center expert and an educator with 30 years of education experience.

00:00 Introduction

02:12 What is it that inspired you to pursue a mental wellness center in the first place? And give us a date when all of this started.

06: 28 Do you think that the student suicides fueled the intensity of that fundraising? Is that kind of how you got so much support?

07:37 You ended up opening back up, right?

08:16 Where did you start before you went wellness center? Or did you go all in?

09:22 Did you ever do groups in the wellness center?

10:34 We hear a lot about access to care. I think we need more of these group approaches to be able to meet the needs of students....Would you agree with that?

13:32 Speaking of numbers, how do you gather data? Share some of the results.

15:55 So, it was also kind of like a triage system?

18:53 What do you think if it was two people staffing the center?

19:57 Did you have students who used it to escape classroom work? And did they get rowdy? And, if you didn’t run into that as a problem – what other problems did you have?

21:14 I’m going to back up to where you talked about teacher backing and teacher support. And it sounded like that was a pretty important point, so I wanted to dig into that for a minute.

22:20 Do you feel like that helped with behavior in the classroom and maybe fewer discipline…less time administrating disciplinary issues?
